I've heard, not from a scientific source however, that it is around 6 spiders a year

well I know from fact that I have indeed swallowed at least 2 spiders! I woke up cause  I felt one move on my tongue and when I gasped to try to get him out, I sucked in air in my panic, both times and down they went! It was awful!

fortunately I know have my CPAP machine and sleep with a mask...spiders can't get in,, but I fear nothing else will either!   [:(] [:(]

How on earth would you measure the exact number of spiders someone swallows in their sleep over the course of a year (and get someone to descriminate between spiders and non-spiders), with a large enough sample size to be representative?

Sleep in a room filled with spiders and have a "spider count" each morning?

    Karen, you're not joking aren't you? :(

Sorry I have not looked at this thread for awhile..

Stephan.. I am not joking I swallowed 2 that i know of and it indeed was not pleasant! LOL..  You shouls have been there! Oh so pleasant LOL I have a terrible weak stomach.. Here in California in the summer we have this bugs I don't know what they are as when I see them they have committed suicidw on my windshield and I have hence dubbed them mustard bugs because they splatter their little bodies against my windshiel and in looks as if it were lumpy mustard and odd legg and head remnants from its impact! I get terrible dry heaves and have to pull over and open  and lean out for awhile untill some one can remove the creature from my window!.. If I am alone I have to get out and find a branch and remove sad remains then use the wipers which is totally gross and smear his body across the window.. my luck usually is that my windshield water resovoir either is out of water or out of order and does not work! LOL..I cannot drive with him on my window. if someone else is driving I have to recline the set and turn on my side to try to alliviate the nausea!

It was horrible swallowing them really nasty! I cannot even tell you how bad.. Once was in my own bed in the morning and the other was upon nodding off whilst camping lying on my sleeping bag on the ground! It was icky!

I've mentioned before that I had a spider living in my ear for a few days haven't I ?..in that I thought I had water in my ear and then one day out it popped ?

It must have walked in during the rare time I was actually asleep....cos I certainly did not invite it !!

Well, I don't know how many spiders get accidentally eaten but I have seen plenty of TV detective shows where the victim's stomach contents were analysed and I think spiders' exoskeletons are made of chitin which is pretty indigestible.

    Any pathologists out there?
