I'm sure we all know that if we stick a needle in to a balloon, it will pop. I'm also sure that we all know that if we stick a piece of tape on said balloon, and then stick the needle in, it will not pop.

But why? it has still been punctured, has it not?

Incidentally...if ewe pop them in the neck..they rarely burst !!

Yes but the tape is not elastic, and keeps the balloon rubber from coming a part. I would think it would just cause a small air leak!

The main part of the ballon has much tension when you poke it so it pops tearing it apart. but the tapr prevents that tear from the rubber by holding it together, ..The neck has some left over room not under such tansion from the air pressure! MY GUESS!

When the balloon tears apart quickly, you get rapid deflation - BANG!
When the air exits from a small hole - psssssssssss.
Your tape just stops it tearing.
