Pull it out as best as you can and then pour some boiling hot water over whatever remains

... it'll grow back - eventually - and you'll have to do it again, but better than nuking it with some

stuff they should require people to hold a license for  [;D]

Ofcourse, don't forget that all that moss is busily absorbing CO2, so in killing moss, you are contributing to the greenhouse effect [;)]

Unless you replace it with grass or some such.

I replace the moss in my garden with grass every year but it comes back.

The best way to get rid of it is to buy a tub of lawnfeed which has weed killer mixed in and once its gone improve the drainage by raking and spiking the lawn.

I think it is just beautiful!.. LOL There is a waterfall over the bank in the woods where a natural underground spring comes up and the area around the fall is completely tropical looking moss all around the little hill around the fall , blue bells and trilliums moss and ferns pines and giant redwoods.. well skip those as they cut them down this last year.. all thats left is brush pines a couple Pepperwoods and two oaks.. lots of scraggly new growth but I have'nt seen a Redwood yet but they will come back from most of the stumps... anyway.. moss rocks! it is so soft to lay on and cushy.... I love it!
