Yes - the Material World podcast (BBC Podcast) was good - I listened to it last night. Do we need to duplicate it though?

When I was at school (GCSE's in 1991) we were taught that a charactistic of ionic compounds was that they were solid at room temperature and had very high melting points. Looks like this was somewhat of a simplification/generalisation...  []
