It is relatively well accepted that Jesus's birthday is ...well.......unknown !...and that December 25 is just the date chosen ( i don't know by whom) as a date purely to celebrate the birth........which is nice !

Don't you feel sorry for Jesus, having his birthday on Christmas Day?

It was the date of the pagan festivities (approximate date, since I assume the festivities would have been around the winter solstice) - rather than force people to abandon the pagan festivities (which would have probably been an impossible task), they just rebadged it as a Christian festivity.

Traditionally there was always a glut of birthdays around Christmas - what do you think people were doing in the spring - 9 months previously (and ofcourse, why they were all rushing to get married around June).

I was always taught his birthday was different but it took the three kings months to travel to see him and present him with the gifts at christmas time. So we celebrate it for the time they arrived as it took time for the word of his birth to be spread! Word was sent out of his birth and people traveled from all over to come and lay gifts at his feet.. ( Thus The three wise men!)They followed the star to find him resting in the stable.

The reason that Christmas Day was originally as stated before in August was
because of the Julian Calendar and when Gregory became Pope, he then enacted
the Gregorian Calendar that we use today. Adding 11 days to the calendar.

So that is why we have Christmas on the 25/12 but the Orthodox church has Christmas on 6th January.
