Why do I forget so much?

Heck I thought only old people forgot as much as I do. I'm only 14 and have so much more knowledge to gain and yet I can't remember what I want to post here, can't remember what I had to eat, can't remember lots of stuff.
What could be causing it? Do I needa defrag my mind and recycle the recyle bin and delete some unused programs like back in the day when I used to play these video games. Heck its been more the 5 years and I bet you I could still beat that game with my eyes closed. Why does our mind keep useless information like that when we have much more important stuff that we want to keep up in there!?

I've always felt that I never had a very good memory but after quite a few years of living with it I think I can put it down to three factors. The first is that I've relied upon working stuff out as I need it - for example, in school physics lessons I didn't try to remember all the formulea - just a couple of the key ones, because all the rest could be derived from them (handy when you're crap at revising - I realised in one exam that I'd derived one of Newtons laws (can't remember which one of course) in part of my workings out). The second factor, for me is currancy. I remember things that I use frequently but when I stop using them they go. The last factor is interest - if I'm interested in something there's a much better chance of me remembering it whereas things I have little interest in go very quickly.

...And its claws are as big as cups, and for some reason it's got a tremendous fear of stamps! And Mrs Doyle was telling me it's got magnets on its tail, so if you're made out of metal it can attach itself to you! And instead of a mouth it's got four arses!

Its a good question.. but repetition and interest etc all make a big difference to me to. also weather I read it or saw it and read it with my own eyes or someone read it to me.. visual stimulation as well as audio stimulation etc.. reading out loud help me to retain more info..

There's all sorts of factors going on with memory - but just to address why you might remember an old computer game - at the time, you were concentrating hard on beating the game, and probably had to repeat things several times (I'm not saying you kept getting killed! Just that games tend to be repetitive) Concentration and repetition will help you remember, but reinforcing the neurological pathways (the more you use them, the stronger they get).
It's also possible that you are a kinaesthetic learner, and as playing a computer game requires detailed and controlled movement of your fingers, this could have helped.
I find that I learn best if I explain things to people, but if I just listen or read it doesn't really go in.

Don't you just hate it when you think of something, go up to get it, get there and you don't konw what you wanted to get, but you go back to where you were when you thought about it and you remember. That happens to me, to much.
