We all have a sixth sence?
« on: 24/12/2007 23:14:29 »
Hey guys. I was wondering about some stuff. When i am in bed, and its veryy quiet, and i have my eyes shut, i can sense someone in the room before i even know they are in the room?  Also, My friends dad had 'sensed' something wrong, and went to pick his son up from school, something wrong was going to happen.

Is this concidence? Because i can list hundreds of exmples like this me and my friends have enountered.

Or do we actually have some sort of sense?

Thanks

I do believe we all do indeed have a sixth sense. I have gone to the phone thinking I need to call my mom or my sister and I reach for the phone and they are on the line as I pick it up and it did not even ring yet! I have these things happen every single day.... usually several times a day!Other things to.. I think everyone has an intuition or foresight sometimes they just do not know how to use it!

There most likely is no such sixth sense as you describe it. Humans have extremely good imaginations, and their brains are great at perceiving patterns. Unfortunately, this means they are highly prone to perceiving patterns that are not actually there, assigning meaning to certain coincidences, and making particular associations between certain things where none exist.

But if anyone would like to try to prove we have such a sense, James Randi is offering a very large sum of money to anyone who can scientifically verify the existence of supernatural/paranormal phenomena :D

However, we do have certain abilities that would seem extrasensory, which are being scientifically studied. Telekinesis (where appliances are connected to detectors and amplifiers of brain wave patterns, and operate when they receive the right types of waves); out of body experiences, and body maps of the brain.

Yes I know what the scientific community thinks.. but my opinion is based on my life experiences and my grandmothers etc..

I have heard about this fellow before. James Randi.. gifts like those my grandma had were not given to be paid for but to help her and others on many occasions.. She would never have argued it with anyone only let it be used to help her or the ones she loved.. Many people are skeptical about the sense and people with gifts... I am not.

The James Randi prize is supposed to be incentive for people with claims of the supernatural to demonstrate, under scientific conditions, that the phenomena are real. It is not "payment" for a "gift".

Can you detail the kind of "gifts" that you are talking about?

Also, wouldn't you like to know scientifically whether those gifts are real or not? I should think that anyone who frequents a science forum would be skeptical enough not to entirely base their opinions of observed phenomena on simple personal experiences. And even when there is solid data, it is important to retain certain levels of skepticism. Even science can't be 100% certain about anything (but it can get really, really, really close).

Knowing things in advance seeing things before they happened. I have been here before with people who choose to try to figure out how or why these things happen. I can't tell you but do know that I have seen it my whole life. It is not something I will debate or really discuss. It is just a belief I have  and have been witness too. She has been gone for years and her spirit lives on. I don't understand it myself... but it was never important for me to understand it...

We do in fact have a critical sese that is is essential to our well being and is not listed in the normal five. That is an awareness of the position and motion of our limbs when we cannot see them.  The failure of this sense causes most people to effectively become totally crippled although some people have managed to overcome it with a great deal of inventiveness and willpower.

Yes. But these senses are nothing like the ones Karen and Stana describe.
