Ooh - hey guess what! Guess what your favourite rodent has decided to do.

Some of you may have read my rant about the state of the UK at the moment & that we're seriously considering moving abroad. Well, we've decided to go for it and we've both decided to train as EFL teachers. That fits in nicely because, apparently, Spain is short of those so we should be able to find work without too much trouble.

Sandra needs to learn Spanish and she's already started an audio internet course. I'll need to do a Spanish refresher course but, hopefully, that won't be too hard for me to do.

We're going to put the kids in an English school to start with until they're proficient in Spanish, then swap them into a Spanish school. That should ensure they grow up bi-lingual - which is never a bad thing.

We were originally thinking of Asturias in the north but the weather there is similar to southern parts of the UK and we would like somewhere a bit warmer. A Spanish contact of mine has recommended Montilla, near Cordoba. We've had a look at the gumph about it and it looks perfect. Temperatures are between 12oC in winter and 26oC in summer. So, mild winters and summers that aren't too hot (unlike me, Sandra doesn't like really hot weather). The scenery is fabulous there with rivers and mountains. And, hopefully, we'll find some land for us to be able to keep our horses.

We've started looking into rental properties as we don't want to buy anywhere until we know for sure whereabouts in Spain we want to live. We can rent a nice 4 bedroom villa with pool in the hills not far from Montilla for around 500-600 Euros (£400-500) per month, so that should be well within our budget when we're both working. Then, when we're settled and have got our residencia, we can buy somewhere.

If all goes to plan we should be able to move out there in just over a year; so, plenty of time to get everything planned out properly.
