The Encyclopedia of Life [nofollow] was launched yesterday

What do people think of it? It's only in its infancy and I'm not quite sure who submits to it, although it's supposed to be definitive, unlike wiki. Do people like the format? The goal is to have a web page for every species that has been described. It's a big task but it also has a good lot of funding behind it ($50mn). It has similar objectives to the already present Tree of life web project [nofollow] but as is explained on the Tree of Life website, there are certain differences. Do people think that the Encyclopedia of Life is any better? Worthwhile?

To me, the EoL sounds fantastic in that it claims to be a definitive source which everyone can access and I also think it looks cool. But whether it will be implemented that way remains to be seen.

Btw, don't be surprised if the Eol site is down today. As I already said, it was launched yesterday and likely to have overloaded.
