What is flecainide, and how does it work?
« on: 25/03/2008 21:35:12 »
Can anyone tell me what this contains please? I cant seem to find out.
My mum is taking it for heart arrhythmia. I note it should not be given to those with valve disorders. She has mitral valve regurgitation.
Thank you.
Ruth.

N-(2-piperidylmethyl)-2,5-bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)benzamide

C17H20F6N2O3

There's an entry in Wikipedia about it

Thanks very much - that is very useful.
Do you happen to know if it's ok for someone to have this if they mitral valve regurgitation?
Thanks.
Ruth.

I believe that is not advisable in general; but, as always, there are exceptions.

Chris, being a qualified doctor and the genius extraordinaire behind The Naked Scientists (and a Yes fan!), is far better qualified to answer that question.
