How can we think/talk to ourselfs? It's purdy neat how we can do it. It's probably just nothing, but I've been doing it for 14 years now and I still don't know how I'm doing it. So is there something behind it or are we just weird or what?

Inner monologues help us to make sense of the world.. some people have an external monologue (these are the ones that speak out loud to themselves usually when performing a challenging task.)

People like to talk things out.. I guess if there's no-one around to talk things out with ourselves will do.

This leads us to the wonder of how we think.. which is a huge topic.. how do you think? I think in pictures... some people would think in words, others would think with feelings, others still may think in colours or musically...

I wonder if our inner monologues differ like that as well...

I can talk to myself out loud and not really be speaking to anyone like you mentioned above, but now how come I can't read to myself out loud?

Usually, I have to talk to myself because there's no other intelligent conversation, even when the room has people in it.

I also read to myself out loud!
I retain more when I read aloud.

yes it is... in fact we learn far more efficiently when we incorporate three techniques (reading, writing and listening) which is why many presenters of lectures will read the power point presentations while you read them and take notes.

I'm not sure which I learn best by. If there's like a written out test I do great, yet I can't do good on homework for some reason. And I like don't listen in class, but it all sinks in some how. I think i'm messed up ha

With all the stuff I've got on my shoulders I beileve yes I am..

There are kids alot worse then me and they don't have anything on their shoulders. Get things handed to them, don't wake up at 6 in the morning and get home at 9 most nights and still try to get a nice gpa and make the parents happy and still have a girl in their life. I mean yeah its wearing me down, but its like the only thing holding me up right now.

I have recently noted my niece talking to herself.. she is 4 years old. But she is also talking to herself and calling that inner voice she talks to.. "Self".. she had a go round at school with another child.. and I asked her what happened she said that "self" told her to hit the other child! I asked her why.. and she said self does not like that child... We had a long talk her and I about telling self that self was not allowed to hit other children but that self would have to use her voice to speak to the other child instead of hitting. I asked her is self liked getting hit and she said "NO" so I told her that if self did not like being hit then perhaps the other child did not like being hit. I asked her to talk to self and explain to her that getting hit is not nice and hurts so if self wanted to not get hurt then self should not tell oneself to hit another person! Then I asked her what she thought.. could she have a talk with self..She immediately referred to her self in that term and gave herself a good talking too just like we talked.. not angry but just truthfully!. She has been doing better.. and we have talked about those voices that always confuse us... LOL.. I explained to her that self was the inside part of her.. her sub conscience .. she told me self lived in her head.. I asked where she pointed to the top middle part of her head.. I touched the side and said oh right here in your head.. and she said "NO Aunt Karen... Right HERE and she pointed at the top middle again telling me it was not on the side or back or front of her head but right in the middle! I thought she did well at describing her ID.. LOL 4 year olds are astonishingly amazing humans!!

i think in words, but i am not addressing myself, as if one part of me is addressing another.

i am just forming ideas as words, in the same way as i would think through a sentence in my head before i said it out loud (if i knew what was good for me).

I have that problem that I say what I am thinking before me head edits it, and get myself into trouble sometimes!

although i should probably leave immediately, as the last thing i need in my life is one more opportunity for procrastination.

2 weeks off over easter, and a mountain of work to do, and i have accomplished nothing.
