Could turning on the new hadron collider (LHC) in CERN mean the end of the earth and man kind (which means me ) because hawkins radiation hasn't been proven and mini black holes may not actually evaporate.

Ok maybe not but the new lawsuit in America aims to prevent its use through fears of the unknown

I doubt that Swiss and French law would acknowledge a US court. The US have some dippy ideas, in any case. I think the LHC has few (proven) threats for us compared with all the others which are posed by pollution and economic imperialism.

Yeah but this is an American court anything can happen, Wacky things in terms of cases and verdicts happen in US courts  [] and if the US were forced to pull their portion of the funding?

Science takes risks - we all do. It is one of the basic laws of life - grow and evolve or die out.

True of us personally, of science and of all life in general. SO - if it happens it happens.

I guess in the past these CERN scientist would have been burned at the stake.

I think the main reason for the US courts bringing this case is because they've not succeeded in getting where the CERN's  the new hadron collider (LHC) but if that was going to destroy the earth then wouldn't CERN have taken that into perspective before building their LHC.

Wasn't it the Americans, who were responsible for the Atom Bombs,
that exploded over Hiroshima and Nagsaki to end the WW2.

It seems that the court case is ignoring reallity. As that article points out "Much higher energy collisions that those at the LHC frequently occur in nature, because cosmic ray particles zip around our galaxy at close to the speed of light. The moon has undergone such collisions for 5 billion years without being devoured by a ravenous black hole or killer strangelet."
So we know these things don't eat the plannet.
This leads me to wonder what the real reason for the court case is (apart from lawyers wanting to get rich).

It is the fanatical fundamentalism in the US that is causing the same to happen here. Bombing of progressive Christian schools and abortion clinics. killing of doctors who perform such abortions for women...  In essence terrorism.

It is the "if God had wanted men to fly he would have given them wings" mentality.

Now science is a tool of the Anti-Christ to these people.
