Gday naked scientists,

I've been listening to this excellent program ever since i heard about it when Chris was interviewed on a similar radio show here in Australia, called Science on mornings with Dr Karl (the man is a genius:P podcast is here: http://www.abc.net.au/science/k2/podcast/drk_rss.xml ), but i've been lazy and have only just gotten around to having a look at the forums. And i'm glad i did! Even after seeing only a few threads i realise there is some very knowledgable people in here, I can see myself learning alot :) I've already done a few posts here and there, just thought i'd introduce myself.
If you were wondering what my nick Madidus_Scientia means, It is roughly latin for drunk scientist, or science :P (or that's what i hope it means, i used an online translator which probably isn't so reliable for latin translation)
I'm 23 and live in Townsville, in North Queensland for those who might be familiar with Australian geography. I don't study or work in any kind of field of science, i'm just a laborer but have always had a keen interest in all sciences.
Anyway, see yas around!

And g'day to you, Madidus Scientia. So you're from that little island off the coast off NZ, eh? I bet you drink Fosters and drive a Holden!

This is a real bonzer site, and the only hoon to watch out for is JimBob. He's American and doesn't even know what a Minogue is.  [:D]

OK, enough Strine. Welcome to you.

The only person you really need to guard yourself against is the MAD RODENT - at least that is what he thinks he is. They let him have a computer at the loony bin so he has proclaimed that he can understand quantum mechanics, that he is a computer programmer, a psychologist and a musician - all in someone who believes is a water rat akin to your platypus. He posted a picture of himself in the Day Room of the asylum with all of the other patients kneeling in homage to him as he stands there in nothing but his pajama bottoms, with this caved in chest with a few wirey hairs on it and his head, holding an orb that is an old volley ball and a septor that is a toilet plunger. It would be laughable if it were not so sad.

I do feel so kindly towards the disabled, so please, try not to offend him. He angers easily and has connections on the outside. About two years ago a couple of thugs showed up at my door, broke both my knee caps and said - be nice to beavers. Now, I had just broken up with a rather unpleasant woman after two dates so I can't PROVE anything but the Beaver's dad did leave him a fortune from his adventures in Africa - ya never know. we had had a very small disagreement. He's not right in the head I tell ya, just not right.

So - pound a rock hammer on the concrete floor, yell koooo-ee as loud as possible and head for the nearest bar mate! (At least that is the way we did it when I was in Brisbane on a consulting job!) And just make yourself at home.

(this is a great place - no flies)

Brisbane was lovely. I t was followed by some of the most horrendous times I have ever had - on a rust bucket of a geophysical survey ship gathering gravity and seismic between the north coast Papua New Guinea and the Solomons. Wretched time of the year - January.
