Does Listerine mouthwash repel mosquitoes?
« on: 09/05/2008 13:55:57 »
Marcey Lawson asked the Naked Scientists:

I heard recently that Listerine mouthwash makes an EXCELLENT mosquito repellent.

Apparently, all you do is put some in a spray bottle and spray around the area where you are and it keeps them away for hours.

Is there any truth to this?????

Susan Maruca asked the Naked Scientists:

On your next (wonderful) show you will discuss what attracts mosquitoes to certain people. I have a related question:

I am hearing rumors that Listerine works phenomenally well as a mosquito repellent. Is that true, and if so, why?

I find that if I squish a fly with a bottle of Listerine...it acts as a good repellent !!
