..did ewe know that most ginger cats are blokey cats ?....in fact..I think ginger girlie cats are a very rare thing indeed !!

Why's that then ?

Ewe see, I just don't know.....I wish I did...will ya tell me ?..will ya ?...will ya do that for me ?

My ginger cat is female and she had a sister in the litter, also ginger. However my vet told me that nearly all tortoise shell coloured cats are female. Either we have a lot of cat colour myths or there is truth in it all somewhere. Another one I heard was that pure white cats are often deaf.

There is truth out there!!

Both tortoiseshell and calico cats are typically female because the coat pattern is the result of differential X chromosome inactivation in females (which, as with all normal female mammals, have two X chromosomes). Conversely, cats where the overall color is ginger (orange) are commonly male (roughly in a 3:1 ratio). In a litter sired by a ginger tom, the females will be tortoiseshell or ginger. Male tortoiseshells can occur as a result of chromosomal abnormalities (often linked to sterility) or by a phenomenon known as chimericism, where two early stage embryos are merged into a single kitten.

That's interesting about the white cats aural lack....lets hope a passing white coat wearing white cat knowing expert pounces in and makes dough on our tummies in an answering kind of way !

This is Borte Borte Tit Tit. She is a tortie but we think she is two cats stuck together as she has a split personality and what looks like a seam up her tummy and chin. She also does supercat impressions in her sleep.
