Because when we suffer from the lack of sleep then our tear ducts
may dehydrate and need the sleep to stop that happening.

Also sleeping is good for the health, as some doctors have said.
Rosalind Franklin was my first cousin and one my life's main regrets is that I never met this brilliant and beautiful lady.
She discovered the Single DNA Helix in 1953, then it was taken by Wilkins without her knowledge or agreeement.

Why would sleep be related to tear duct dehydration? We don't have any trouble producing tears when tired.

Perhaps you may want to expand you question, what effect on the eyes are you asking about?

Because whenever I get over tired then my tear ducts get very dry and hurt.

Paul I agree with you that this question does need expanding on.

Red sclera, puffiness of eyelids, dark shadows under the eyes.
