Super Genius, what is the real I.Q reading?
« on: 17/06/2008 17:36:18 »
I'm not sure this is the right place to post this question, but I recently took an I.Q. test from a psychologist and I scored 167. I'm in the genius level, but what is Super Genius, I didn't bother asking, I kind of just accepted my score for what it was and walked out.

Is it 175, 200, 215? I read many answers for this and I figured, alright, why not go to a science forum, there are people like me there and I can go by the majority of answers and then I can assure myself of what a real Super Genius score is and try to attain it through harder mental training.

My strengths are in math, spatial and linguistics, but I'd sure love to get everything up to par, it would be a plus, especially with todays 4th. dimensional way of viewing life.

There is a problem here. There are several different IQ tests being given. So which one you took is the key, not the score.

I.Q. tests are rubbish! They test if you are a convergent or I divergent thinker. For example, if you were asked the question " What would you do with a brick?" A convergent thinker would answer I would get more bricks and build a house or I would throw it through a window. A divergent thinker might say that they would swap it with a friend that owned an elephant as I want an elephant and my friend might need a brick. High I.Q. scores mean you are a convergent thinker and therefore very logical. You don't tend to think outside the box. Divergent thinkers tend to be people like Richard Bransen who may not have done well at school but can see the bigger picture and be inventive.

So you're telling me I don't think outside the box. Ok, you know me inside and out. I weld, construct, engineer, run a forklift, do mechanical work, run a warehouse, am proficient in physics, apply my physical knowledge to inventions I have in mind, I'm currently writing a fictional book. I enjoy nature, do photography, philosophy.

I could go on and on with my "convergent" thinking.

Do me a favor and THINK before you post something like that, OK?! It was a simple post and a simple question. All I need is a number, not hoohah. If I had a brick, I wouldn't even go there.

You started a thread discussing IQ tests and Make it Lady discussed IQ tests. If all you are interested in is a number and not anyone's opinions or discussion then why don't you just find the answer for yourself, i'm sure you could manage it if you indeed scored as high as you claim on your IQ test.

All convergent thinkers want is a number not reasoned debate!

Alright, so the number is 175. If it's less, if it's more, then so be it. Here's a lesson learned in life, as a dumb kid, never express you are a genius, because the masses will come back at you with pitchforks and torches and chase you out of town.

So, Makeitlady, I'm a convergent thinker. Here's a quote I have:

"To simplify every aspect of life is the first step to great valor"

Now, if I was convergent, I wouldn't even know the meaning of that. I'd say, duuuhhhh, well, I'll just live my life and not worry about what comes of it. I come from a life where I pretty much taught myself everything. I taught myself how to construct and taught myself spatial analysis, which is what I do when engineering large metal beams and various mechanical devices. If someone gives me paperwork, I don't just look at it and don't reason with it. I take that paperwork, ask questions, then use intuition to make the right step for my company. If I was convergent, I'd be on the street with some beatnicks hoping I can make it big with music, but frankly, EVERYONE is going out for music and dancing talent these days, So I have dedicated myself to reality and am using common sense skills and intuition to get through life and I am damn well doing a good job.

If you are still stubborn and want to label me "Convergent", fine, this thread is done.

hip hip...why do people bandy numbers around? Anyone who reads posts on this form know what the reaction will be, why do they place so much in their IQ score?

I will say it again, if I was convergent, I wouldn't know the meaning of common sense. Yeah, yeah, I know, common sense should have told me not to write this topic in the first place, but you know what, I wanted to wing it and see what would come of it. I'm not tauting myself, I'm not showing off, I was just writing a new topic. Ahh, what am I so worked up about, this is too trivial for me, I'm done, I'm the fat lady singing now, at least I know when to give up.

You asked a question and got feedback. That is it.

You want a number.

As I explained there is no single "number." IT JUST DOESN'T EXIST! If there is nothing else you want, be civil and don't take others, who I know to be as intelligent as you are, to task for the rather erudite feedback they have given you.

Frankly, you're making a spectacle of yourself.

No Sorry is an apology. You are new and are forgetting that we have shared our ups and downs over the past months and in some cases years. We also know each others strengths and weaknesses. We will welcome you to this forum if you treat its members with respect and treat their opinions and intelligence with respect.

I have learnt through experience that when you are new to anything you should sit back and watch how people interact before you dive in and try to be superior. You may be superior but you need to do it with respect.

God guy, take a deep breath and start again. Read the replies as opinion and not attack. If we do attack it is only playful. You are so like my son. You are very, very clever but don't know how to interact.

That convergent and divergent makes a lot of sense. But having a high IQ is also situation based. Geniuses are made by the stimulants they get as a child. Like if they are young and watching programmes like countdown instead of cartoons. The kids watching the cartoons will grow up to have more of a sense of humour, but when it comes to maths or english, may be a bit duller than the kids who grew up around numbers and word games. However, the kids who grew up watching countdown an shows like that, will probably make alot more money in their lives an be better qualified. You could just be stronger in different aspects of life. At least anybody who is listening to the naked scientists, or reads these forums is not a drone. Like the people who are generally empty headed who could be doing a job like stacking shelves for a living, or general labour work. Not just that, but the people doing those jobs that don't really say much or will add just a 'yeah' or 'innit' to what people say, or don't chat jokes. As long as a person is happy in life then thats all what matters. Be it money that makes them happy or socialising, or both. Some people are just happy to be in a relationship without seeing their friends too often. Peoples minds work in different ways, Richard Branson is not a genious on paper, but intelligent in other ways, like its each to their own...

LOL! Einstein, I heard, had a smaller brain than the average man. I HEARD that, don't quote me on it. I'd figure so, since Neanderthals had HUGE brains, but were dumb as rocks. Einstein probably just had what I like to call "super dense brain matter".

this is just to correct a misconception: it is not criticism.

well, that statement is a lack of knowledge, not intelligence, which neanderthals had in abundance. they were as intelligent as homo sapiens but had a lower reproductive rate - indicated by the fossil record. they were probably unable to compete in breeding and in aggressiveness with us.

The evidence of hyoid bones and inner ear structures only found in one other species, humans, indicate that the neandethals were capable of speech and probably had a well developed language. extensive healing herbariums burried with some female neanderthals indicates a level of medicinal knowledge greater than that of homo sapiens until only about 20,000 years ago, after contact was made between the two species.

"A recent extraction of DNA from Neanderthal bones indicates that Neanderthals had the same version of the FOXP2 gene as modern humans. This gene is known to play a role in human language.[29]

Steven Mithen (2006) proposes that the Neanderthals had an elaborate proto-linguistic system of communication which was more musical than modern human language, and which predated the separation of language and music into two separate modes of cognition.[30]"
