well, it seems this is an urban myth.....but it makes me wonder if indeed it is possible for there....

It's not echoes, but you've probably heard of noise canceling headphones. Those work by creating a second sound over the first (incoming) sound to cancel it out. If you listened to an echo wearing some of those, you wouldn't hear it!

The mythbusters explanation would be quite correct if the surface from which the sound is reflected is quite close but an echo from a more distant source would be quite normal.
