Say Hubble checks out what's happening on a nearby star....say Aplha Centuari !

How many years does it knock off when viewed at like this ?

Do you know what I mean ?

We see  things on Earth with our eyes that the light has taken many years to reach....but if we take a closer look through a telescope are we seeing it a few years earlier ?....

I've got this all wrong haven't I ?......cos I'm confusing just zooming in with actually being nearer the star yes ?

It takes light about 1.3 seconds to travel from the moon to the Earth.
So when you (on Earth) look at the moon you are seeing it as it was 1.3 seconds ago.
This is true whether you use the naked eye, or look at it through a telescope.

I think it's because Hubble has subscribed to Sky +
