Is there a scientific way to quit smoking?
« on: 01/08/2008 12:17:14 »
Adri Claassens asked the Naked Scientists:

I have been smoking for 8 years, and I'm now trying to quit. I would like
to know, is there a scientific way to do so? How can I trick my body into not
needing the nicotine any more? Or is it a completely mental problem?

What do you think?

The answer to your questions is 'yes'.

The scientific way would be by using nicotine replacement therapy. And cutting down slowly. However there is a 'mental' component to quitting something as well, the habit part, as opposed to the addiction part. Usually quitting something means changing your lifestyle, which can be difficult if you are quite content where you are.

    Good luck.
