Notice the yawn ?

I know yawns are very infectious amongst humans and I think some of our Apey chums...but are there any other species which display the characteristic of infectious yawning ?

As a secondary question, has even reading this post made ewe yawn ?

Mirrored body language is apparent in lots of animals, especially those in herds or in communities such as cats and rabbits. I guess if they can yawn that this would also be a mirrored action. Cats yawn and squint their eyes to show other cats that they are not a threat and will not fight. So your cute little moggy will join in a yawning orgy if she is with a bunch of cats that just want to be friends.

That's interesting because I've often seen our two chickens in exactly the same pose and had heard it's quite common - but what does it mean?

Knowing chickens, they are just resting between eggs. Sorry don't know that much about hens.

I admit to enjoying great eye squintiung sessions with my two cats !..that's great....I will prevail upon them , and if they will indulge me when the time is right.......a dose of yawny joy and see what happens !

I have tried to talk cat before. It works well until you try to speak in high cat, which includes caterwauling. I tried it once and my cat cuffed me firmly around the head. Perhaps it is like listening to an Englishman trying to speak schoolboy French if you are french. I find they have the same reaction!
