Howdy to the masses
« on: 11/10/2008 13:46:54 »
Hello all.  Just had a wee trawl around the forum and thought I'd pop in to say hello...so hello.

Been listening to the podcast recently and I absolutely love it, although I'm trying to catch up (still listening from way back in 2006).  I think you guys do a brilliant job of communicating science to the masses, something I think we are starting to a general trend of in the past few years, so keep up the great work!

A little about me perhaps?

I'm an undergraduate up in the frozen wastes of Yorkshire, UK where I'm studying Medical Genetics.  I'm currently on a year out doing some research into the genetic basis of rheumatoid arthritis susceptibility.

I love science in all its aspects, but especially biology, and more specifically genetics, surprise surprise.

I look forward to learning more groovy facts about science I can bore my friends with  [;)], and hopefully I might even be able to contribute something!

Regards
Mike

Howdie, MIke.

I suppose someone should tell you what you are in for. We have some members who are quite mad, some who are old, some who are borrowed, some who are rodents! and some who are blue. We like to have meaningful discussions and hope more people will join in our mass debate!

The best thing I suppose anyone could say, is, Good luck!

Paul, if the mass debate thing was your idea of humour, then all I can say is "be a good boy and I'll buy you some smarties you small boy you."
Do you come from Yorkshire pseudogene? The north of England is the best place in the known Universe. I hope you are enjoying fiddling inside all those genes.
Anyway, ignore the other two, they are just showing off. Don't forget to feed the fish, watch out for the god squad and the spam people. If you do all that you will be fine. PS we have all gone on face book recently so if you like that sort of thing there is a group of us on there too.

But if anyone asks you about sticks, beware.

I used to do a whole load of walking in and around North Yorkshire - Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough etc. Great place! As they say here in Germany, Herzlich Willkommen!

Howdy & welcome Pseudogene.  Make yourself at home, but please watch where you step.  As Paul pointed out, there is lots of mass debating going on.  Feel free to join in, or just sit back and watch. [;D]

I bet Jim will try and claim the credit!

I daresay I WILL NOT claim credit for anything that wasn't stolen from an email I sent on from others.

Pay no attention to Paul -  He is one of the unwashed masses.

In case you didn't quite believe the remark about rodents, here I am to prove the point and to add my welcome to the others.

You have already been given a general warning about some of the members; but may I specifically point to JimBob. He is a mad, geriatric, Texan rock-fiddler whose underpants are larger than his IQ. Apparently he likes working in his underpants. I, however, prefer working in my office; the air isn't so stale with the stench of urine.

MakeItLady is, allegedly, a chemist but seems to take more pleasure in childish, schoolyard quips about rude things.

If you want sensible answers to questions, then Paul & I are the ones to ask. We know everything about everything.  [^]

P.S. The north of England is full of strange people who wear whippets and eat flat caps!

The flat cap and gravy pie is a bit of a local delicacy here, they call it meat and gravy to the "non-locals".  Try it after a long day down't pit.

I thought you had to eat it at the foot of the stairs.
