Did anyone notice last week's meteorite strike?

No? Well it was the size of a small car and had been tracked for a month until it burst into a fireball tens of kms above the Namibian desert at 03:46 last Tuesday.  [:0]

I suppose all the papers were to busy talking down the economy to bother with something like that. It was known for some time it would hit Earth and as it did so released energy equivalent to a kiloton of TNT.

Funny how we prioritise things - what would be the response if it hadn't landed in Africa but Yorkshire?

I heard about it on Monday on a different podcast. Apparently, meteorites of this size land/break up on their travels to earth every couple of months or so! Is that really the case?
