hms, i don't know if this is only common knowlegde in Norway, since NONE of the people i've met in england seems to know of it, but that might be, since we are a bit weird, and well, it's very cold and boring up there[:I]

do any of you know what happens to a potato if you freece it??[:p]

it gets cold !!!...but...as a firm believer in empirical study I will place a potatoe in the freezer and will report here tomorrow the results of this important study.

Well, eleven hours later and potatoe is thoroughly miffed !!..obviously potatoe had no idea what it was letting itself in for. I can report that potatoe is as hard as a rock and therefore I can not take a bite, but when I come home from work tonight I shall endeavour to take a chomp when potatoe is defrozen.......I can't wait !!!!!!

I've come home to find potatoe is as soft as if it's been boiled for half an hour and totally saturated !!....I can squeeze it like a sponge...poor potatoe !!

lol, um i dunno what to say. that's not what happened when we did it in school a few years ago[] (but then we didn't freeze it for so many hours[] i dunno. the only thing that is supposed to happen (besides the potato getting cold) is that it becomes really
sweet-tasting[]

kristin.... how long did you freeze them for when you did it in class?  did you do whole potatoes? or does it work with little chunks?  how sweet does it get?  did they explain why to you? does anyone know how this works??!!  I'm so intriuged!

lol, um can't really remember. think it's just a few hours.
and if i remember correctly it has got something to do with the starch molecule being broken up into smaller pieces, a- glucose or something, but i can't guarantee it..
