Perhaps its because the plate is smooth and less porous then your finger and your finger causes more friction upon the plate causing a drag and thus the squeak! My grandma always said it was the squeaky clean effect lacking oils dirt etc.... so no build up  to spoil the squeak! LOL
I don't know if there is any validity to it but that was her take on matters such as that!

She also included hair and skin in the same category!

Neil is your plate dry or wet? if the latter that's another reason for the squeak. What kind of china is it made from?

Rosalind Franklin was my first cousin and one my life's main regrets is that I never met this brilliant and beautiful lady.
She discovered the Single DNA Helix in 1953, then it was taken by Wilkins without her knowledge or agreeement.

I believe it's due to the finger prints on your finger acting like a bow on a violin string, causing the plate, or parts of it, to resonate.

...And its claws are as big as cups, and for some reason it's got a tremendous fear of stamps! And Mrs Doyle was telling me it's got magnets on its tail, so if you're made out of metal it can attach itself to you! And instead of a mouth it's got four arses!

I think the grooves of your finger are a bit like the grooves of a record and produce a sound when rubbed against the plate.

Oh good , you're still here !...Alas, there is no makers mark or 'Ingredients'  of any sort anywhere on the plate...but i do get ' squeeky squeeky' when wet and dry (more so when wet)..Thanks Rosalind

soap and a rough rag to exfoliate my skin and leave it squeaky clean.. jut Like the dishes I wash and my hair! basically every day!
