tell me what it feels like to have aortic aneurysm rupture or tear?
« on: 10/01/2009 04:06:48 »
I am asking because I am having some surging  stabind pain betweem my shoulder blade just above it actuallyand the base of the right side of my neck down....

not pulsating but short deep pulling like pain hen i eases... bit it comes right back...been doing it last night and all today. starts back there and hurts deep inside to the front.... so far bearable.. but unnerving....... I may be just nervous but am unsure  whats happening...
Does anyone know where one feels the pain if  it hould be rupturing.. ? What the heck am I supposed to watch for...?  This is mighty uncomfortable!

Wikipedia has a list of symptoms for dissecting aortic aneurysm ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aortic_dissection#Signs_and_symptoms

If your pain is brought on by movement then it is more likely to be musculoskeletal than cardiovascular.

No movement at all. Just happening all day today... and still tonight. Making me nervous! I have come to Arcata to be closer to  Facilities.. I am at my Daughters...
Has not gotten worse just staying the same.. more then earlier but same intensity..  Different then the angina pain I take the nitro for... so I have not taken my nitroglycerin thinking its kind of different pain..

Karen, I would go to see your doctor if I were you. There are tests that can be done (may involve a hospital visit) to check. I know someone who survived a ruptured aortal aneurism, which is not the more usual outcome, and my step father died from one. It is best not left to chance.

I went for a angio cat scan a couple weeks ago and they said it was about the same as the last check 4.7 centimeters was the last on the ascending side.... The other end has another one but only about 3.6 decending side..

She did not however give me numbers for about the same as last time..
I just feel more and more discomfort... I feel like I am driving them nuts they look and say its the same go home.. but I can't get rid of the pain or discomfort!

It has been rotten all day today...If I go I feel they will run more expensive tests to tell me everything is the same just go rest! I am resting!
Thank you for your advice I called the doctor she said if I am not better by the end of the weekend come in Monday! General practitioner!

Thanks Graham.. You got to know I am really scared and nervous already...

I am sorry about your father.. How did your friend do?

Glad you saw the GP. A lot of people get hiatal hernias (I have one) and they are mostly asymptomatic, but can cause gastric problems which, in turn, can give you some pains. Has anyone suggested trying to fix the angina -  a stent or even a by-pass? The arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat; if the hospital were not concerned it is probably OK. Did they say that the pain was probably skeleto-muscular? Don't over-worry about things but, at the same time, don't feel that your being a hypochondriac by asking your GP. Better to be on the safe side.

The person I know who had the ruptured aneurism collapsed and had an emergency operation to effect a temporary repair. The prognosis was not good but, nonetheless, he survived and got over it (he's 76). He then had a later operation on the upper part of his leg to aid in some way (I'm not sure what was done here) but this was difficult and he has to walk with a cane now. But otherwise he's OK now. He knew about the aneurism for about a year before it ruptured, but his doctor said he needed to have a triple by-pass before he would be fit enough for the operation. Well events took over while he was deciding what to do. He still hasn't had the bypass!

Well I went in and my blood pressure was high as heck and my heart monitor  was all over the place and they could not get a normal sinus rhythum..it was looking more like a really bumpy irreglar mess of rounded mounds in a bumpy road.. By the time I was creleased They had stablized the blood pressure and given me three doses of nitro under my tongue and a 8 hour nitro patch...That began helping and was down all but gone leavin a feeing of heavyness in my back behind my sternum...With that relieved he gave me a huge dose of Morephine...to get rid of the remaining pain.... which..I don't think was nessacary.....The  Pain was subsing with the nitro..... anyway he said that... the all the nitro took care of the majority wants me to do a secund blood stuff to recheck the heart enzimes they were higer then they should have been.... he said he was worried they may be higher in the
sorry for scare am still rummy.

Will write later.
Drowsy again

hugs
