Can stem cells be used to re-grow bone?

Don Robertson asked the Naked Scientists:

Dear Scientists au Natural:

I really enjoy your podcasts through out my work day. I'm a Post Office
letter carrier here in Oregon, USA, and your podcasts help get me through some very long days at work. I also would like to say, as someone else has previously, the Children you have on your show are very polite. English parents have must be doing something right.

Anyway, I'd like to know if stem cells could be used to re-grow sections of bone for transplanting. I saw an article on the Spanish Doctors that used stem cells to re-grow part of a wind pipe, would this work on bone as well?

Cheers To you all

Don

Scientists are now looking into unlocking stem cells from your own bone marrow using drugs. These will then help to mend broken bones. Look at the following from new scientist
