I've just remembered something else, you roll up a piece of tissue paper or whatever and stuff it between your teeth and top lip, (the end result is that you look like a rugby player or a boxer with their mouthguards in) then you press hard on it and the bleeding should stop [

pressing hard on it may have the same effect as if you were pinching the nose off but your lip would be blocking the passage...
