Imagine a pink unicorn standing on the deck of the Titanic.
Please tell me what it looks like.

Even if you haven't seen an elephant, you would probably recognise a  drawing  of one, and be able to imagine such a beast standing on the deck of the Titanic. And if someone asked you "what is an elephant" you'd say "it's an animal that looks like this drawing"

Same goes for pink unicorns - you can even buy a plastic model. And string theory, except there is no drawing.

I know , they look like Slimer in Ghost Busters .  And they leave goo on the walls wherever they go !
...P.
Side note : String theory is an analogical visualization representing a mathematical underpinning to the physical interrelations of the subatomic particles/forces COMPOSING ( ha-ha-ha ) the reality that theoretical physicists grapple with daily . More power to their tortured arses !

There , are ya proud of me now !

Ghosts are just as real as the unicorn.

A seahorse eating too much shrimp and getting stuck on a narwhal's tusk?

This is all super, but.

Anything supernatural, rainbows eclipses lightning mirages has turned out to be explainable by external science.
Science can only explain up to the big bang, and readily accepts subspace.
It accepts conciousness, sentientness logic
There are lots of questions that it cannot answer
The image you see in you head is literally that, an image in your head yet other concious beings corroborate this image.
Quite a few phenomena are disbelieved to begin with, ie elves in super  thunder clouds
Animals are big electric things

My guess is that they are a mirage of something in another place, electroprojection either within the brain or maybe either externally, why they occour in deserted places may be due to the need for cold calm conditions ?

As for ectoplasm malarke, ,picking people up etc you have to wonder
