Quote from: Vern on 31/01/2009 18:25:42
I just wonder if we are smart enough to do any thing that will make things better. It seems to me that we have a great affinity to create a huge pile of crap but little ability to clean it up. We usually make it worse, as we here in the US are finding out now as they dole out the bail-out money.
Absolutely Vern,.....If our government keeps spending money the way they are now, we will soon be unable to afford the winter heating bills. In which case, we will probably all be praying for global warming. But ofcourse, those running the show will just tax us even more to pay their own heating bills so they aren't too worried. Either way, this issue is not about the weather, it's about global control and the new world order isn't it. This global warming propaganda is the horse the globalists will ride in their attempt to consolidate political power into one centralized authority. And when a despot takes control of it all, the unified nations of the world will have no recourse but to submit to the central authority. Individual freedom along with national freedom will be a thing of the past and no longer will there be any ability to defend against the tyrannical rule of a one world government. Remember why we fought the last war? War is never good, but I can think of something worse. The inability to oppose an evil empire, and when that empire is world wide, there will be no escape from it.

RE: Of Mice Men Hockey Sticks And Goats. I am generally cynical about whatever the latest science fad might be; and in directly proportion to the hysteria employed. And I am still awaiting the Hockey Stick guys to return the innocent ruminant they ran off with years ago.

There is no generous way to explain them. If they really believe their stupid Hockey Sticks they are an abomination to Home Economics, The Junior Classical Leaque,  let alone Climate Science. On the other hand, perhaps they thought the public was just ripe enough to fall for adequately tortured data.  I see no other options.

The entire discipline suddenly became suspect. It was like some sort of tribal cabal. Whatever means that ANYONE used to achieve the required end was not only tolerated, but apparently celebrated. Nobel and Oscar prizes included. Now it has decomposed to the point where the very top individuals are fast [and perhaps criminally] deleting their own data and emails.

I hear prominent members of the Physics(?) Community are circulating a petition to remove their organization from endorsing "The GW threat is a grave danger to national security" or some such. The entire assemblage has become too tedious for words.

DAve - I am an old geezer and have seen this hysteria cycle for many many decades one one stupid thing after another. This one is now in the final process of self immolating.

Do YOU believe in the Hockey-Stick theory, by the way?

THE GW CROWD FINALLY JUMPS THE SHARK

Has anyone got a load of the recent Copenhaggen thing. First, they showed what seemed like an out-take from the Disaster Movie 2012. The end featured a young girl hanging from a single last branch in a hurricane over the water plaintively begging to stop CO2. This was the opening feature, I think. Of a 'scientific conference.' Any self respecting Junior High School Science Fair contestant would slink out due to simple embarrasment.

Then there was the carnival side show. Some guy from the Maldives in fish tank and scuba gear emphasizing how the world needs to provide money or some such to save the Maldives. By coincidence, I actually have on open correspondence to the Maldives from one of the world's more prominent oceanologists that is more then edifying. It is humorous.

He states "This is the fourth time I have written to you...."  http://www.spectator.co.uk/coffeehouse/5595813/why-the-maldives-arent-sinking.thtml

Incidentally, the term 'JUMPED THE SHARK' refers to an episode of the old sit-come Happy Days. In that episode The Fonze water skies over a shark. Jump The Shark is now a metaphor of desperation for higher ratings that produces the opposite effect.
