Does brushing hair , clean it too ?
« on: 30/04/2005 19:59:55 »
Hi There,

I'm a Neanderthal and I've jumped ahead in my time machine to the 21st century to ask you this question.

In my time no one has invented Shampoo and Conditioner, the best we can manage is grab a porcupine and use it as a brush. Now am I right in thinking (in my limited extinct human subspecies capacity) that I need not worry about waiting for someone to invent shampoo cos the more I brush it the more it gets clean anyway yes ?

Thank you for your time and patience , I have to wizz back a few thousand  years now...........you know how it is, people to see, places to go, ticks to eat etc

As a Neanderthal you are not paranoid about anything that could be termed grease, and you should find that your hair will look after itself, especially if you rinse it regularly and brush it, and probably have useful properties such as being waterproof.

It does seem crazy that we wash our hair with shampoo to remove all the useful natural oils, and then we realise that hair needs some oils, so we have to add some back again with conditioner. Although this process does stop it smelling so much, so if you are visiting for very long you may find yourself more popular if you do wash it...

brushing hair should help remove particles grit, dust ect but shampoos remove grease and oil by breaking bonds so the water you as a neanderthal will be exposed to every day wont do it how ever as i understand it due to the natural build up and replacement of oils in your hair it will clean it self (sort of) after 18 weeks from the last proper clean how ever if you clean your self wilt your tongue ie cats the enzymes in your spit will brak down the bonds same as soap.

Interesting, no the other thing... tedious.

Thanks Dave and thanks Chris,

Well I just hope someone invents Shampoo and conditioner because i'm fed up of taking the porcupine into my cave/hut shower.

Now cleaning with my tongue eh ?...perhaps I could get wifey to give me a ' hair-job'.....(sorry)
