What is this strange insect found dead in my house?
« on: 01/05/2005 04:06:01 »
I found a very strange bug in my basement yesterday.  It was dead and most of the legs had fallen off, but as far as I can tell, there were 12 or 13 legs on EACH SIDE.  It is definitely not a millipede, as the legs were long like a roach.  I live in the Kansas City area (Central USA) so it must be something native to the area (hopefully).  Here is a picture:

You're right - it's wierd, and I've no idea what it is. Hopefully, through my bringing this back to the top, someone will see it and help you out !

John,
Try this out.
I think this might be it:
House Centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata)
Good luck.
Night-night, don't let the bed-bugs bite...err...whatever the hell that thing is.

By the way, what is the definition of a "bug"? Since people think that bugs are synonymous with insects, but then centipedes aren't insects yet members here still refer them as bugs.
