Why does a phone stop ringing as you are about to answer it??
« on: 26/03/2009 19:11:24 »
hey all boffins

Im sure this has happened to you, it happens to me all the time.

You hear the phone ring
You are a bit far away so you make a dash to find it
As you are about a send away from answering it, it stops
(OR) You answer it only to find a dial tone...

any ideas?

Very true my dear Karen, very true. Without getting too far off topic, what I find confusing is many times just seconds before the phone rings, I get a premonition of it. I can't explain this phenomenon but, in all honesty, this has occured many times. And whats even more inexplicable, it seems to be more frequent the older I get.

from wikipedia:
Quote
According to the book A History of Murphy's Law by author Nick T. Spark, differing recollections years later by various participants make it impossible to pinpoint who first coined the saying Murphy's law. The law's name supposedly stems from an attempt to use new measurement devices developed by the eponymous Edward Murphy.

So surname then, probably
