Hi Raghu.

This isn't really how the forum works. You were banned for a reason, and the polite thing to do would be to email Chris asking if the ban could be overturned.

We simply can't allow you to come straight back under a different name, especially as, by posting a link to your "I'm leaving" thread everywhere, you clearly haven't taken note of the reason you were banned, i.e. posting non-useful chat in science threads.

He wouldn't be stupid enough to do that, surely?

He has been given the opportunity to undo the ban, he merely has to reply to Chris' email and cc me in. Once he acknowledges why he was banned in the first place, we will happily un-ban him.

However, if he were to set up another account, and so get back to the forum this way, that would be dishonest and sneaky. By ignoring Chris' request and defying the moderators and admins of this forum, he would prove himself to be untrustworthy and unwilling to abide by the rules of the forum.

If he did set up another account, we would ban that one as well, and it would substantially weaken his case to have his original account unbanned.

Let me give you a hypothetical example.

Raghavendra set up another account under the name "Raghu". He used a very similar email address, and the messages came from the same IP, so it was very obvious to the mods that he had skirted around his ban. "Raghu" was, of course, promptly banned.

Then, Raghavendra may have decided to set up another account, for example using the name "Goku". He would again use a similar email address, and pretend on the forum that he was not raghavendra. Again, this would mark him out as dishonest, untrustworthy and not worth the hassle of un-banning.

Interestingly, Goku shares both an IP address and a writing style with Oortel, but this could be for a number of reasons, as the same applies for Raghavendra and Nobel Prize for me.

So the simple way to fix this is for Raghavendra to stop being deceitful and reply to Chris' email, then to abide by the forum rules. Though I could see why Chris would be tempted to leave the ban in place.

Goku, what do you have to say about this before I ban you?

Edit - Goku has now deleted his account. Perhaps this message got through? I have yet to receive an email from Raghavendra though, as Chris requested.

Edit again - I've now picked up the email, and so will unban Raghavendra. However, this is your last chance.
