Blood transfusion
« on: 20/06/2003 15:07:34 »
Does anyone know who came up with the idea of blood transfusion?  I have heard that the man who invented it was in an accident and was not allowed to receive a transfusion that would of saved his life and died.

I've just given Dalya a book to review about blood transfusions, including the first blood transfusion. I'll ask her to look up the relevant details...

I can’t remember from my History lessons but I know the first transfusions used pigs blood, obviously killing the patients. Later they used human blood but having no idea of “Blood Type” only about 1/3 were successful leading scientists to speculate why.
