How many meals should a healthy person consume per day?

It has become an accepted norm that it is recommended to eat 5 to 6 small meals a day, in order to stabilize blood sugar and speed up metabolism.
I came across a (non practicing) doctor the other day who said that one should only eat twice per day as the "stomach gets tired". He said that one should eat a huge breakfast and a small dinner and nothing else. This flies in the face of conventional, scientifically proven fact. And is the very reason why so many people are over weight. Has anyone else come across this "tired stomach" theory? Just wondering, before i put it down to complete stupidity!

I've never heard of it Nicci.
Thing is next week they'll be a new theory and then the week after another !
Presumably this non-practicing doctor practices what he preaches !

My gut instinct is that the stomach does not 'get tired'.. and it's not the amount of meals you have.. but the amount of calories you take in and what they derived from that assists in health.

I sometimes have 5 to 6 meals a day, that's what bodybuilders do, and I'm one of them!

My personal opinion is 5 to 6 small carbohydrate and protein balanced meals is the only way to go! If one's objective is sustained energy, increased metabolism and building of lean muscle which is really the only way to burn excess calories and balance blood sugar!
