Sun and shadow... how's your calculation?
« on: 18/06/2009 18:58:18 »
A tree grows 4 metres in front of  a building 12 metres high.  The tree is 18 metres high.  The sun reaches a point in the sky apparently just above the tree at 16.00 in midsummer

What shadow is cast by the sun  (a)at 16.00 at astronomical midsummer in London (UK) and (b) at noon at astronomical midwinter in London.

What shadow would be cast by the building if the tree were not there?

Does anyone know any software for calculating azimuth and elevation of the sun?  I know nothing about astronomy whatever.

Thank you.  [:)]
