Does our hair grow faster when we are cold?
« on: 31/07/2009 12:12:58 »
We have hair to keep us warm, so does our hair grow faster when we are cold? Or is the body not able to respond to temperature in this way? Is the rate at which hair grows pre-programmed (and not something that responds to specific circumstances)?

I think we just get goosebumps and the hairs stand up.

Your hair does grows faster when the weather is warm.

Quote
Hair grows at around 1/2 inch each month during summer, but during a cold winter it only grows about 1/4 inch.

You'd think it would grow faster in winter.

When I was a teenager, I noticed that the hair on my arm, which was in plaster due to a broken wrist, grew more than the hair on the other arm. I heard the suggestion that the hormone levels in the arm that was healing would affect the hair growth rate.
Possible?

Maybe the plaster just stopped them from wearing away?

Maybe it was the warmer conditions inside the plaster? That would agree with those figures.

Herman peoples hair grows at different rates really and the better health the hair is in the faster it grows. I find when I am thoroughly hydrated and my nutritional level has been spot on with nice sunshine I am like a plant that thrives and grows profusely in the summer and without those conditions, lack of sun in the winter cold cold conditions, My growth slows to a crawl and I do not usually require the normal summer like trimmings needed to maintain my hair growth control. So like a plant, the water, warmth and nutrient conditions help our hair  to thrive in the warmer months spring thru fall!
