Time Travel... Trying to prove it...
« on: 09/08/2009 22:53:13 »
Hello from Portugal :)

1st of all i wanna apologize my English..., if you cant understand it please say so and i will try to explain with other words.

So... do you think time travel is possible? We don't know... but we can try to prove it... the main idea is if everyone knows that all human kind is waitting for the first time travel to be on a precise date, when time travel gets possible then the first date they (in the far future) will try is this date.

I'm trying to spread the date 5 April 2010... thru space... and thru time :P

I have a couple of videos where i think it can be easily explain... the blog that support all this crazy idea is @ newbielink:http://5April2010.blogspot.com/ [nonactive]

What do you think? I should be on a medical institute to treat this crazy idea? Or does it makes some sense but of course it can't be done? Or... it will be a success?

Again, sorry my bad English... and thanks a lot...

olá, Fric

Interesting idea, but I cannot see it happening as I do not believe time travel into the past will ever be possible.

You have no need to apologise for your English, it is easily understandable.

If time travel were possible, don't you think we would know by now? Someone from the future would have visited us by now.

Don - that's not really a valid argument against time travel. Maybe they have but have simply not announced themselves. Or it could be that they don't have enough power to get this far back in time. Then again, maybe they consider this era too dangerous & stay away.

I disagree. I think that if time travel was possible then someone at some point (an impertinent teenager) would have come made themselves known.
Although I have to ask what is the importance of 'backwards time travel'? wouldn't it be to spread 'future' ideas before their time for the (intended) better of mankind? In which case our world around us would be very different - all the time - as future humans just popped back to tell the Russians how to land on the moon in 1968 or tell the Australians that Cane toads aren't such a good idea... or perhaps tell JFK to duck.
We are already travelling 'forward' in time :)

Once I drank some vanilla rum and thought I could see through time.

If time travel were possible, don't you think we would know by now? Someone from the future would have visited us by now.

Maybe mankind has discovered time travel somewhere in the future, but if they do, I'm pretty damn sure there are very very very very (x10) strict laws on traveling back in time with very very very very (x10) severe sanctions for violators.
Maybe that's the reason why no one from the future has visited us.
Or maybe, some outlaw did, and some future cops came back as well to apprehend him and take him back to their time.

In both cases, they'll make sure we don't know anything about it.

one of the ways out of this paradox conundrum is that you can only travel back in time from the point you first made something that could do it. so in other words, we create checkpoints along the timeline which we can visit, but you can't go earlier than a checkpoint because there is nothing to go to - that time has been lost. another idea is that although there are currently no known physical laws which constrain time travel, nature may find some way of messing it up. perhaps multiverses are the best way of doing that.

I've contemplated another option:

Everytime someone has traveled back in time and changed something in the past, mankind's entire consciousness/opinion is updated.

For example.
Suppose the 9/11 attack should not have happened, but someone from the future came back and changed something (with the intent to change history from this traveler's perspective) with the consequence that 9/11 did occur. We will never know whether or not a time traveler caused it or not.

Other example.
Suppose there was no meteor impact that made the dinosaurs go extinct, but a time traveler went back and sneezed and brought a virus from his time to the Cretaceous or w/e era the dinosaurs went extinct.

All the people that do not travel through time, will remain ignorant to the impact of a time traveler.

And even if someone at present day would claim he's from the future, they'll lock him up in a padded cell.

Another theory (but a bit more far-fetched) is that matter cannot travel through time, but mankind has evolved so far that they're able to send a conscience back in time, while the body remains where it is.. In this scenario, the conscience cannot exert any influence on the time where he's traveled to.
