Dictionary of conjoined words
« on: 23/09/2009 22:49:01 »
Hi all,

Me and my son really love joining two words together to make one. For example "gutteral Utterances" become "gutterances." Swimming with your arms whilst walking on the pool or sea bottom is a "swalk." Farting and burping at tha same time is a "furp." An "extreme sport" is a sporteme. An "Ugly Duckling" is a "dugly."

I would like to add more to my dictionary. Can anyone think of some really good ones?

You should get good responses from the Aussies for this. That's pretty much how 'strine' came about.

Examples:

Gungadin = I can't get in.
MNX = Ham and eggs

A pair of portmanteauists  [:)].

http://users.tinyonline.co.uk/gswithenbank/portmant.htm

The above link has "knork" (knife & fork combo), but omits "spork" (spoon & fork combo).
The above link does include the noun "zonkey" (zebra+donkey*), which should also be an adjective,
 e.g. "I've drank too many beers and I feel a bit zonkey".

Also see ... http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:List_of_protologisms

* A donkey with three legs is of course a "wonkey", (I'll get my coat).

Stone me!!! I've never heard that before. Thanks Dave. Reminded me of the Two Ronnies sketch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vMsCEWbd-A

A friend once came up with the word 'thinkles' during a conversation about thick ankles.

Thanks RD for telling us what we have been doing for so long and I will add the thinkles to my vocab of conjoined words. I really need some more contributions though. For example a back catalogue could be a bacalogue.

That's odd.  I've never seen a so-called "knork"

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

I suppose it would be handy of you only had one, (hand that is).

I'm very keen on the man boobs one = Moobs. It is my favourite.
The recent goody is the result of Kermit and Miss Piggy mating. They would have a baby Frig.
