Why can't we use dynamos to solve our energy problems?

Blessing asked the Naked Scientists:

Hi Chris

I listen to you on 702 every Friday.

Why we do not use the electricity we generate to produce more electricity?  The energy we produce from one dynamo we use it to drive 10 dynamos and then 100 if you know what I am saying.  Then our energy problems are solved.  I think it is possible.

Blessing

What do you think?

It will not work because each dynamo - even the original one - uses more energy than it produces. So on every dynamo there is a net energy loss.

Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, it only changes forms.

To put it quite simpley, you can't get out more than you put in, unless you're a banker (yes I have spelt that right... Oh I don't know though!)
