Neil
Never tried warm milk as an adult so i have no idea if it works.
If it does work maybe its got something to do with when we were babies, Dont most babies fall asleep after they have been breast feed and winded.

Sex must be boring for you while your wife is breast feeding. i bet she don't let you near them.

I wonder if breast milk tastes like cows milk.I wonder if it would be good for you.
It could be a good way to help her diet.[:)]
or maybe not

Come on, Neil, you have warm milk on tap at home.  You're telling us you don't know if it works?
*slaps face*  Sorry, I'll be serious now.

Warm milk has never worked for me any better than any other non caffienated warm drink.  I think it is the act of sitting down and getting comfortable and warm which does the trick.  The drink is just an aid.  Perhaps psychological? A throw back to early childhood comforts?

ukmicky, you need to get some life experience before you throw those comments around.  Many breast feeding women find a partner's attentions particularly enjoyable, and some find breast feeding in itself to be mildly stimulating.  Breast milk definitely does not taste like cow's milk.  It is not as creamy and it is sweet.  It is loaded with nutrients specifically tailored to a baby's needs, constantly changing with the individual.

Well lets brake the problem down.
Drinking warm milk will raise body temperature I presume as the body returns to its normal body temperature there may be a physiological change which promotes sleep.

but as warm milk is cooler than body temperature how is it going to raise your body temperature.
Its probably a psychological sort of placebo effect more like ,you believe because you've been told that it works and will help you sleep, so it does

I have a cup of hot milk with honey everynight just prior to retiring, I mostly always drift off just fine. Then, damm it, I always wake up about three hours later to take a pee. Most annoying, even though I'm used to it. I drift off just as well with coffee. On an aside, a guy told me years ago that the best sleeping aid, was a banana milkshake, something to do with an ammino-acid in the banana, Tryptofan I think.

Hey Neil, personally all warm milk does for me is make me sick. I think it tastes nasty. I do however have a funny story regarding Breast milk and the Hubby. Sarah was my first child and I nursed her til she was oh about 8 months old, and decided to take a bite with her newly emerging teeth. Well anyway back to the milk! My hubby was trying to leave for work early one morning. Finished his Breakfast and made a cup of coffee, he opened the fridge and low and behold we were out of milk. He was bummed, he hated black coffee. So in his fit he glanced into the door of the refriderator and decided he would borrow some breast milk from a bottle I had just pumped for the babysitter. I had to do some errands and she couldn't go. Anyway, he kissed me goodbye and applied the lid to his cup. I put the breakfast dishes in the sink and happened to look out the kitchen window into the driveway to see hubby tipping back the coffee. He took a real long draw off it and his head came forward and all I could see was this spray of coffee splattering out all over the top of the car, and down the front of his jacket. I could not stop laughing. I knew then that mama's milk was not exactly what he had envisioned it to be! I was so sore from laughing. When he came in and saw me he just scowled and went and changed. When he returned teeth brushed and clean, he said, "Why didn't you tell me what that tasted like?" I said it might interest you to know that I have Breasts but I don't make it a habit to drink from them! HEHEHEHEHE! He realized how dumb he sounded and said, man oh man, you don't ever want to try that! I laughed till I cried. You had to be there. The look on his face was priceless! Just thought I would remenise a bit!  Karen

Karen,

God, How I laughed at this story...darn abdomen hurts like hades!  I don't like milk...and especially when I have my coffee on the one day i drink it...it has to be cream...just a tadbit...but your husband needed to do that for one of those mastercard commercials..."priceless"  LOL

Neils warm milk question, and what can I say, A memory I will never forget. I laughed so hard and still do each time I think about it!
Something so funny, I can imagine how bad the milk must have tasted because at the time I was eating a bowl of steamed broccoli every morning with hot melted butter and a pile of chocolate ice cream mixed together. It was a craving I had during pregnancy and continued craving for about a year after I delivered her. Then it went away, just like magic. Can you imagine the flavor in your coffee? EEKS!Yuck!

Hey now Michael, tell me the truth, how many of you fathers out there have really not thought about it? Tell the truth now! Mine can't be the only one.
Hey Neil, is Julia nursing? Maybe you should try a bit of mothers milk, Nothing like mothers milk to put you to sleep. Might help with your insomnia you know. Full of all those great vitimins and they say it makes your immune system really strong! Just be careful about what she has had to eat! Just kidding friend, felt like poking fun with you, feel better soon!

OK, Neil you are so funny! That will ruin any chance I ever had trying to be Julia's friend too, but I am sure you will enjoy the challenge anyway!
By the way, I don't crave the stuff anymore, but I still like the combination. Isn't that weird? It still tastes good. I don't get it. The doctor says you crave things when your pregnant that your body is lacking. Pickles was supposed to be a lack of salt in your body.  ice cream is salty but I never thought about the broccoli I smothered in butter or margerine. HUMMMM.... Weird!
You guys are going to have to unscramble my spelling, seems I can't spell worth a darn!  Neil you were right about Jersey, I can't believe I spelled it with a "G"! Oh well. You have a great evening and hope Julia doen't have a harder time weaning you then she has with James. Now you behave yourself and be a good lad and don't use those old toothypegs to hard now!

By the way, Robert and I have talked about the incident several times he  remembers trying it and it was bad. He honestly doesn't think much about it. I think it was funny because I was able to watch the show, he had to taste it and did not like it. I guess it wasn't a good memory for him.  Those are the things that make a marraige interesting.
