A lot of people went because the place got a bit bitchy and stupid. Also when you've been on for a while topics come around again and again, so it is good to have a break. It is also not so healthy to stay too virtual.
I've been off for a while because I needed a change and was finding the atmosphere too stressed on here. I'm only back as I felt a need to haunt a place I'd spent happy times talking to Beaver and JimBob into the early hours.

Wahay! I'm so glad you're back.

I've not been around much for a while either. I'm in the middle of a custody battle and holding down two jobs to pay for it. But it's all coming to an end now so I'll be back soon too. It'll be just like old times!
