Does activated bamboo charcoal have health benefits?

Craig Campbell asked the Naked Scientists:
   
Could you please tell me if there is any truth in this statement:

"Negative ions found in activated bamboo charcoal has health benefits as in better blood circulation"

I cannot find an answerand would like to know if its just a lot of hoo ha.

    Charcoal is used in cases of poisoning ...
