As you can see, Shona has a long face because she does not get red eye with flash photography; she gets green eye instead.

Why's that then? Shona would really like to know.

What a cutie!

We get "red-eye" from the reflection off of our blood vessels in the retina. Dogs have a special layer of cells at the back of the eye, though, that reflect light back to the retina in order to help them see in low light, so that's the reflection you're seeing.

I think it must be the same effect when my cats' eyes glow green when you shine a bit of light at them in a dark room.

Thanks Jessica!

Shona is a great companion. She is quite a character, and very affectionate. Mrs G says Scotties are great.
