Why can't a motor hooked up to an alternator provide free power?
« on: 11/04/2010 13:30:03 »
Errol T Van Renen asked the Naked Scientists:

Would it be possible to design a motor to be powered by magnets which could then be hooked up to an alternater to provide free electricity & why has it not been done before.

Many thanx

What do you think?

As you probably know, there is no "free lunch".

Even if the system was 100% efficient, you could get no more power out than you put in. Because no systems are ever 100% efficient, you will always get less power out than you put in.

I would agree, despite constant quests for perpetual motion machines, there is no way you can get a free lunch, there are always external factors which make it... not!
