Why
do
car alarms go off during thunderstorms? Is it just from the vibration of the air due to the sound wave, or a result of the electrical effect?

Seems to me it would have to be the vibration, wouldn't it? Since air is a poor conductor, even though a lightning bolt may be close it doesn't really produce electrical disturbance in something it doesn't strike, does it?
