Why do fish move in shoals?
«

Whenever I see footage of schools of fish they move in such complete unison. What prompts them to move as a group? When a predator approaches they all seem to dart in the same direction moving as one. Do they take their cue from a single fish or do they all respond individually and how is this communicated so instantly to the whole school?
[MOD EDIT - PLEASE PHRASE POST TITLES AS QUESTIONS, WHICH IS FORUM POLICY. THANKS. CHRIS.]
