Dear Goldologists,

As a sheepy i of course luff gold....gold is my all time favourite yellowy dense metal that's quite inert in a non reactive kind of way (I like platinum too..which is 35 times rarer than gold...did ewe know that ?)

nice eh ?...being delivered next Tuesday as ornaments to put around the fire place.


Now then, Gold is like well dense yes ?...denser than iron though not as dense as Platinum !...so..the question that follows applies to platinum too !


What i would like to know is how come there is Gold and platinum relatively near the surface of the planet ?..How come the gold did not fall down to the centre of the planet when it was all hot and bothered and stuff ?

I think a fair amount of it did sink, which is part of the reason that it is so rare in the crust. It is 60 times more abundant in meteorites than in the crust,

so a lot of it has sunk, just some of it has been brought up in mantle convection or has been associated with lumps of rock which have been at the surface
