Hello everyone,

I want to warn all that there is someone impersonating me and doing weird things with my computer in other forums. They are impersonating me and others and sending emails that appear to be trying to spread interntet viruses.
PLEASE DO NOT OPEN ANY EMAIL THAT LOOKS LIKE IT IS FROM ME.
I hate that this has happened because I was enjoy helping with questions. I don't want anyone to get a virus.
I have also been advised by my husband that my involvement in forums have left me vunerable so I cannot participate anymore.

People, how is it possible for someone to hijack your email address and send out emails pretending to be you?..I know there are viruses that raid your address book replicate themselves and then send themselves out, but is it possible for a hacker to do this too.

Neil lets put it this way, a little while back my daughter forgot her hotmail password, 2 minutes later with the help of an anonymous person her hotmail account was broken into and her password changed to something a little easier to remember. Its easy and being a member of a forum like TNS has little baring on whether somebody's going to attempt steal your identification or not. No internet connected pc is 100% safe from attack  and no information on the internet is secure,There will always be someone with the required know how  to break into any system  

I know more about computers than the average person and i still get the odd virus or trojan attack. The best way to try to prevent it is to stay away from dodgy places like illegal download or porn sites. what most people don't realize is that the majority of illegally downloaded software comes with a little extra like a virus or a trojan.

Everybody should have a firewall like Norton internet security which will stop all bar the most determined attempts to gain access to someones pc where they can steal their personal details.
There is a firewall built into windows but its not good enough.

IMPORTANT
Never save important personal information like credit card numbers to a site that you purchase goods from or to your pc and always keep virus and firewall updates up to date.

Thanks Michael...seems obvious now that you've explained it.

I suppose Hotmail being ubiquitous must be a constant target for hackers. Is it really that easy to find someones password ?...brrrrrrr !!..not nice !

Yes and there are sites accessible by me and you but mainly for hackers where they post updated information on how to do it.

Its life, Things like that happen all the time and can happen to anyone.

My best advice is be careful what your store online or on your pc. Change and dont use the same password for everything,and then get on with your life as before.

Never let the mindless morons who do that sort of thing hold you back[]
